Ao Nang Beach is the nearest beach destination to Krabi, its white sands atracting large numbers of visitors every year. On the beach there are lots of activities such as snorkeling or canoeing or lay back and just relax by the crystal clear ocean. Night time brings the outdoor dining to life as the restaurants set out tables for local specialities especialy seafood which is available in emdless variety.

Between them Krabi and Ao Nang boast a large variety of attractions, sights, eating places and quality accommodation everything from backpacker hostels to 5 star resort luxury.

Getting There
By Air
Krabi
International Airport (KBV)  15 km from Krabi , 40 km from Ao Nang. Thai Airways  Air Asia One Two Go, Bangkok Air all have daily flights from Bangkok some flights from the new Bangkok airport some from the old airport so check your ticket or with the travel agent flies Tiger flys direct from Singapore nearly every day  and from Darwin on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Shuttle buses make the 2 hour trip to Phuket airport run several times a day from outside the terminal.

Canoeing  From Railey and Ao Phra Nang beaches by the hour or day or longer organized trips along the coastal waters and out the nearer islands.

Getting Around Taxi’s can be ordered at hotels or online at Krabi.com, the local bus system is very good and can easily get you between Krabi and Ao Nang and the beaches, motorcycle taxis and songtaus (converted pickup trucks) are cheap 20-25 baht and readily available. There are plenty ferries to the local islands and water taxis to sightsee or to get to a coastal destination.

Phi Phi  The stunning islands of  Ko Phi Phi  are only 2 hours away so practical for a day trip to visit ’The Beach’ and admire its amazing beauty.

 

Rock Climbing  Krabi is something of a mecca for climbing enthusiasts from around the world, the limestone cliffs in the area offer varied levels of difficulty and spectacular views across the ocean and back inland. Very popular is the easier climb assisted by a fixed rope system to the princess lagoon .

 

Long Tail Boat’s can be hired to let you explore the areas outstanding natural coastline with its spectacular limestone cliffs best viewed from the water.
Snorkelling
is very popular in these waters and is perfect for those without diving skills to explore the outstanding underwater beauty of the crystal clear waters.
Diving This area boasts well over 200 kinds of fish and over 70 species of spectacular coral’s Ko Ha, Ko Si and Ko Yawabon with its very long swim through are just three of many popular dive spots. Diving run’s year round with a high season November to April. One advantage of diving here is if the water visibility decreases because of bad weather it is fairly easy to move to Ko Samui which has a different weather pattern.

Tiger Cave Temple  So named because the rock outcrop resembles a tigers claw is a centre of meditation. Around 250 monks live in a compound at the temple. You can take each one of the 1200 steps to the top of the hill for a spectacular view. The entire area is dotted with limestone caves some housed people all the way back to the stone age.

Shopping  No malls or big shops in the area apart from vouge department store but the beachfront does have lots of little shops mostly selling gifts and souvenirs there are 2 night markets in Krabi onenext to the pier the other at
Soi 10 in the middle of town.

Eating  The night markets of a good selection of  Muslim influenced Thai food.Viva is an Italian owned restaurant with a good reputation. Sea food seem to be the main Variety on offer most of it still alive and kicking when you sit down for your meal. There is a McDonalds and a KFC in town and a handful of European eating places including Absolut a Swedish place that seems to specialize in meatballs Lisa Bakery, Bolero Pizzeria, Walk In Bar . For western food the resort hotels offer the best selection.

Nightlife In Ao Nang centred on the north end of town, all laid back places for a beer or cocktail the Rocking at the Reggae is very popular with locals and tourists. Near the beach including O'Malley's Irish Pub, Encore Café and Irish Rover, there are also beer bars in the area with relatively laid back hostesses.
In
Krabi  Chao Fa Road. Going up the hill from the river has a number of cafes and bars including  Bang Krabi, Reggae Bar, O'Malley's and Old West Bar there are quite a few karaoke bars for the ‘my way’ crowd.

Krabi in southern Thailand is one of the Land of Smiles most attractive provinces. Around 800 kilometres south Bangkok on highway No.4 and is 180 km east of Phuket. Krabi is a varied and beatiful landscape with pastel coloured sea's s, coral reefs that teem with marine life and magnificent limestone cliffs on the oceans. You could choose trekking through the National Parks or just taking in the stunning natural scenery or getting onto the water kayaking, diving, cruising, or participating in the local speciality rock climbing there is a lot of choice whn it comes to activities , of course you could just lay back and read a book under a palm tree or be pampered at a luxury Spa. There are endless options you just have to decide.

By Bus  In Bangkok buses leave from the Southern Bus Terminal (tel.+66-24351199) and take 12 or 13 hours. VIP Bus leaves 07.20 cost 700, 1st Class bus 17.00  cost 500 BKS buses owned by the government are a better bet than private bus companies.
By Train , possible via Sakhon Si Thammarat but not very practical.
